In this election year, Carers Victoria is calling on governments to make substantial investments to support caring families to live well and have real participation in the community, but we cannot do it alone.
There is no doubt that the stories of caring families can have a powerful influence in winning the hearts and minds of politicians. We are encouraging members of Victoria’s caring community to join the campaign, to take action, and to spread the word.
Community living and caring families: manifesto for the Victorian election 2010 lists the areas where Carers Victoria will focus its work to ensure that carers' issues and the voices of caring families are heard this election year.
At a recent meeting with the Coalition of Disability Rights, Mary Wooldridge, Member for Doncaster and the Victorian Shadow Minister for Community Services stressed the importance of people meeting with their local Victorian Members of Parliament and taking a case study of their situation with them. The politicians that they visit can then engage other party members about the urgency of the situations facing many caring families.
Our Campaign Toolkit has ideas and tips on how you can prepare your case study, and engage with your local MP or the media.
