Instructions for applicants

Prepare your application

• Read the advertisement carefully. Ask yourself ‘What are the most important requirements of the position?'
• Download the position description, read it thoroughly and start preparing your response to the selection criteria. You must address the selection criteria so that your application can be properly assessed.
• Note the name of the person taking enquiries about the job. Phone them to introduce yourself and ask any questions you may have about the position.
• Have your list of questions ready before you make the call and be ready to jot down any information that might be relevant to the application. This is your opportunity to sell yourself, bridge any information gaps about the role and gain insight into our organisation.

Application check list

You must provide the following documents, in Word or PDF format only, to support your application:

• A cover letter indicating your interest in the role. Quote the correct position title and reference number.
• A statement of response addressing the selection criteria.You must address each selection criteria in your application with clear headings and a brief paragraph outlining your knowledge and experience.
• A resume outlining your personal contact details, professional work experience, achievements and qualifications. Use reverse chronological order, with the most recent experience first.
• Details of three (3) work related referees. Referees will only be contacted for applicants who have been shortlisted.

Send your application

Your application must be received by the closing date to be considered.

What happens next?

• You will receive an automated email acknowledging that we have received your application.
• Based on the information provided the selection panel will create a short list of applicants to interview.
• In general, shortlisted applicants will be contacted within a week of the closing date to arrange an interview time.
• Unsuccessful applicants are generally notified by email after a job offer has been made.

A few things to remember;

• Arrive early to give yourself time to complete our application form. It is also important to take the time to relax and prepare yourself mentally
• Present to our reception desk on arrival. The receptionist will give you an application for employment form, information about the police check process and a Carers Victoria brochure
