Improved support for carers: changes to the assessment process for Carer Allowance (child) (Centrelink)

From 1 July 2010, the assessment process for qualification to Carer Allowance (child) has changed. This factsheet explains the changes.

There is now a single tool to assess and score the Carer Allowance (child) and the Carer Payment (child).

All carers qualified for Carer Allowance (child) on 30 June 2010 remain qualified for payment.

To make it easier to move between Carer Allowance (child) and Carer Allowance (adult), you may remain qualified for Carer Allowance (child) for up to three months after your child turns 16 years of age. This transition period is already available for the Carer Payment.
